Moneron Island
Moneron is situated by the Sakhalin southwestern coast a rocky island. It is the first Marine National Park in Russia. It is located in the Tatar Strait, by the most southwestern point of Sakhalin. The area of the island is about 30 square kilometers. The rare combination of various forms of underwater relief and influence of the warm Tsusimskoye Current explain why there are so many specimens of subtropical shellfish, sea-urchin (Strongilacentrotus) and many-fingered starfish in the underwater world of Moneron Island. You will be enchanted by the forbidding cliffs, coming down steeply to the sea, waterfalls, numerous bird colonies, situated on the adjacent to the island small rocky islets, remnants of the Japanese paths, crossing the whole island.

31/08/2001 - Powerful typhoon, which come on South part of Sakhalin from Japan did not allow to disembark our Command on Moneron island. Regrettably, further attempts to disembark on Moneron we have decided to stop. Much sting, but this year expedition on Moneron is cancealled....
16/08/2001 - We shall use RIØF special call sign.
In the morning 18 August we leave seaborne from the port Korsakov, having bent around a cape of Patience will call at in the port Nevelsk and only afterwards nave will head for Moneron island. Hope that at night 18 august (10-12 UTC) we shall be in the air. Date of completions to expeditions until determined! We, as Robinson, shall wait a nave, which will return us to the Greater Land!!! But enourmous desire to revisit this miraculous place on our Planet does not stop us nor before than! Before meeting on the Bands!
